This Morning...

This morning as we were about to eat breakfast, Emilie turned to me and asked if we could pray. In many families praying before a meal is a given, in my family it is not. It isn’t something I was familiar with while growing up, and it isn’t something that comes naturally now. There is the rare time we will pray before eating; like if someone comes to visit and I know they pray before they eat. But that is about it. Me and Luc looked at each other, we looked at Emilie and we said, sure.

She looked at us very seriously, put her hands together (and showed us how) and then said a simple prayer.

Jesus thank you for our house and for our food, amen.

I asked her where she learned to do that, but in usual Emilie fashion, she didn’t know.

So that left me wondering, if I don’t take the responsibility to teach my children about Jesus, who is?

And if I don’t know who is teaching my children about Jesus, how do I ensure that what they are being taught is what I want them to learn?

Which brings me to my next question, how do you encourage your children to learn about Jesus is your family?

Tammy what a powerful little story and I totally agree with you. If not us then who? God is a part of our everyday life, even in the little things and the kids will pray over some of the silliest things but I figure God has a sense of humour and he'd be OK with that.

I too grew up the same way you did. It was a decision I made to get over whatever had put me in the self conscious box and pray out loud. Not easy but it worked.

That's very cool.

The other day Janelle came home from school upset about something that had happened and I couldn't really give her an answer on how to fix it. I said "why don't you pray about it for a while and see what happens." She came back to me awhile later and said that God had helped her find peace and she realized that the problem was unimportant.

God is awesome!
